Write Now is a biennial workshop and festival that supports the creation of strikingly original scripts for young audiences. Finalist playwrights receive a week-long workshop at Childsplay. At the end of the week, each play is read before a national audience of TYA artists and producers as a part of the Write Now convening, hosted this year as part of the TYA/USA Festival.
We believe that young people should be centered in the development of new TYA work. Each Write Now project is paired with age-appropriate young people and community groups who meet with the playwrights during the workshop, attend selected rehearsals, and provide feedback at the final reading of the script.
Playwrights with a fresh, dynamic, strikingly original script/project intended for young audiences ages 2-14 are welcome to apply. Scripts that are "in progress" with a specific dramaturgical question/need are often most competitive. As we are partnering this year with the TYA/USA Festival, we encourage submission of scripts that are intended for production at TYA theatres (as opposed to elementary/middle school productions).
We will work with you to assemble a creative team for your workshop including a professional director, dramaturge, and actors from the Phoenix region. You will have five half-days of rehearsal together prior to your. Finalists will receive transportation and housing, a cash prize, and admission to the TYA/USA Festival.
