Projects may be submitted by individual artists or artistic teams (Write Now will support travel and housing for 2 artists per team). Only one submission is allowed from an artist/team.
Projects must be still in development. Works previously produced in an educational or vocational setting are eligible, if artists are eager to pursue additional development.
Projects previously produced professionally are NOT eligible. (i.e., productions in which the director and actors have been paid — this includes fully produced youth theatre productions).
If the project is an adaptation or dramatization, written proof must be provided that the original work is in public domain or permission of the holder of the copyright has been granted.
While there is no required length, we strongly encourage projects that are prepared to share a 15-20 minute excerpt of a piece (even if it is in progress). We also encourage small sized casts (up to 4 actors).
Only ONE submission per artist will be accepted.
Artists must be 18 years or older and currently living in the United States.
Artists give permission for their work or portions of it to be read at the Write Now convening and to be archived in the Child Drama Collection, Hayden Library, at Arizona State University.
Artists/teams are expected to be in residence in Tempe, AZ throughout the workshop and TYA/USA Festival: May 4-12, 2023.
Any future production or publication of a finalist project must give the following credit: ____________ was a winner at the 2023 Write Now and was featured in a workshop presentation at Childsplay in Tempe, Arizona.
