2015 Write Now Observerships
Write Now is a national effort to advocate for playwrights and promote the development of new work for young audiences. As a central component of its efforts, Write Now hosts a biannual new plays development workshop and convening, which will be held this year at Indiana Repertory Theatre in Indianapolis, IN. Four finalist playwrights will receive a week-long development workshop of their scripts, followed by a national gathering of TYA professionals to hear rehearsed readings and participate in Town Hall conversations. A significant component of the week is the inclusion of schoolchildren and relevant community groups at early readings and feedback sessions, providing the playwright with direct feedback from their intended audience.
Write Now wishes to offer four Observerships during this year’s development process. Observerships will have the unique opportunity to attend the entire Write Now weeklong rehearsal process and the national convening. This position allows the next generation of theater makers access to four different rehearsal rooms and a large network of professional colleagues. In addition observers will perform the following duties:
- Serving as the team’s primary liaison with school and community groups
- Co-facilitating dramaturgical conversations with schoolchildren and community groups
- Collecting dramaturgical feedback from audiences, school groups and community groups
- Other duties as determined by each team.
Observerships will be provided with free registration, some meals and will share the team’s car for local transportation. They are responsible for their own transportation to and from Indianapolis. Write Now will make available discounted housing available for 2015 Observers.
Observerships must be available for the entire 2015 Write Now workshop: Sunday April 26 – Wednesday May 6, 2015.
This position is primarily intended as an opportunity for current graduate students; however, we will entertain applications from recent MFA graduates or emerging TYA leaders who are interested in furthering their understanding of the new play development process.
To apply please send your resume and a cover letter stating your relevant experience and specific interests in this position to Courtney Sale at csale@irtlive.com by March 15th , 2015.
